

Gladys Doris (née King) Black, age 94 of Portland Oregon, passed away on the 16th day of February 2022. She was born on the 17th day of February 1927 in Eudora Arkansas to Joseph King and Luberda King.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Luberda, her siblings, Alfred King, Talmadge King, Winchester King, Marie King-Thomas, Helen King-James, Alma King, Theassa King-Crawford, and her son, Michael Black. She is survived by her daughter, Trenia Evette Black of Portland Oregon, son, Warren Gerald Black Jr. of Las Vegas Nevada; grandchildren Khaleia Taylor-Black and Alexis Lawrence of Portland Oregon, Quincy Black of Wilsonville Oregon, Isaac Black of Antioch California, Tynan Black of Spokane Washington and Schyler Black of Walla Walla Washington, great grandchildren Detrae Griggs, Andre Lawrence Jr, Adaya Lawrence and Ayanna Lawrence of Portland Oregon, nephews, Jeffery Crawford of Detroit Michigan, Willie Crawford Jr of Detroit Michigan, nieces, Nina (Shell) Jackson of Atlanta Georgia, Lisa and Sheri Crawford of Detroit Michigan as well as a host of grand & great grand nephews and nieces.
Gladys was a stay-at-home mother for some time and then she joined the workforce. She worked for Code-A-Phone div. of Ford Industries in the 1970’s as an assembly line worker in the production of phone answering machines. In later years Gladys worked for Good Samaritan Hospital in housekeeping. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Portland, OR. Gladys enjoyed attending church services, sewing, and cooking for loved ones; she also loved playing the piano and spending time with her cat, “Velvet”.
Gladys had a heart made of gold. Her soft voice and warm spirit always brought calmness to the room. She was selfless and made everyone around her feel loved. In her later years she devoted herself to assisting family and instilling morals and values into her grandchildren through Bible study and attending church services.
Gladys leaves her precious memories with her son, daughter, grandchildren, and extended family members, and she will be dearly missed by all.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30am at Little Chapel of the Chimes-Gateway at 1515 NE 106th AVE. Portland, OR 97220 on Wednesday March 2nd, 2022. Her internment will be at River View Cemetery at 1pm.
