Gregory William Olson was born in Portland, Oregon on May 26, 1947 to Lois Mae Hubert and John William Olson. He passed on August 16, 2019 after a valiant battle with cancer. The Olson family moved to Enterprise, Oregon, when Greg was in eighth grade. He adored living in Enterprise and took every advantage of the hunting and fishing, setting up a lifelong enjoyment of the outdoors. He played high school football and basketball. Greg graduated from Klamath Union High School after moving there as a senior.
Greg joined the Marine Corps in 1968 and spent 13 months in Viet Nam as a forward observer for air naval gunfire. He returned to Portland and attended Portland State University, then OHSU School of Dentistry graduating in 1977. Greg joined the United States Air Force upon graduation and that summer married Valerie Bellingham. They took off on a three year adventure in Germany where Greg served as an active duty Dentist for USAF personnel. Upon return to the US, the two set up a private dental practice in southeastern Montana.
Greg and Val moved back to Portland in 1988. Greg returned to school earning a degree from Lewis and Clark School of Law (Northwestern) and fulfilled his dream of working at the Washington County District Attorney’s office as a Senior Deputy District Attorney and the lead of the Child Abuse Team.
Greg enjoyed woodworking and sports. His favorite times were those spent on the water and it didn’t matter what the craft was as long as he was skippering it. His happiest days were boating with friends and the summers he spent in the Puget Sound.
Greg is survived by his wife Valerie Olson; sister Gretchen Amato (Dan); brother Oscar Olson (Judy); sister Tina Olson (George Davis); niece Gina Yazzolino (Tony); niece Brynn Bellingham (Brendon Casey); niece Kathleen Rayfield (Andrew); nephew David Edgerton and five great nieces and nephews.
A private interment at Willamette National Cemetery is planned.
