

Gus Max Miller, of Gresham, passed away on March 21, 2016. Gus was born July 13, 1926 in Franklinton, NC, to Jessie and Mabel Tharrington Miller and he was raised with one sibling. Gus graduated Phelps Vocational School in Washington, DC and he joined the military directly after leaving school. He served in the Navy for 12 years. Gus was very dedicated to the electrical field. Professionally, he worked commercial and residential for over 60 years. In December 1958, Gus dedicated his life to Adrienne Long; they met in Chicago, Illinois. Gus will be remembered for being very dedicated to his profession, and for his leadership and mentorship to many of the young apprentices with the electricians’ union. The Electrical Workers Minority Caucus (EWMC) has recently named the Portland Chapter after Gus. Over the years, he received recognition from the American Veterans Commanders Club, The Sam Whitney Association, and the 55 year member of the IBEW. Gus was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Catherine Jackson.
He is survived by his wife and partner of over 57 years Adrienne; children, Gustena Miller Thompson (Ronald), Gustavia Miller and Brian Miller, and many extended family members and friends. Celebration of life service will be held on March 26, 2016 at 1:30 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer either plants, or donations in his name to the Parkinson's Foundation or American Cancer Society.
