Harold "Jack" Carstens was born December 27, 1919 in Portland, OR to parents Percy E. and Myrtle (Umscheid) Carstens. He served proudly in the US Navy during World War II. Jack worked for the SP&S railroad as a conductor and brakeman, and later served as chairman of the railroad union. He loved the game of baseball, and pitched for the Portland Babes. After retirement, Jack enjoyed many rounds of golf with his brother Leo and friends at Heron Lakes and other golf courses. He passed away March 19, 2014 having been preceded by his wife Hope, his brother Leo and his grandson Steve Olin. Among those who will miss him are his two daughters, Shirley Olin and Janet Sattler; five grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was loved by all who knew him.
