Harold Ray Conley, 80, of Aloha, Oregon died peacefully surrounded by his wife, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren, kissing his soft cheeks and holding his strong hands. Harold was a simple man who lived an ordinary life but left an extraordinary imprint on our lives. His passion and zest for the outdoors was enjoyed with all that knew him, whether it was skipping rocks, calling in birds, or sitting around the campfire, we always knew we could count on him for a good fishing story. Our hero, Harold, served in the army during the Korean conflict. He spent many years working for Mobil Oil and owned several Portland area service stations. He was a bowling alley manager at Canyon Bowl and enjoyed the chance to encourage leagues and players of the sport, having a team called “Harold's Heroes” and well into the last years of his life, his little “Harold jig” delighted his bowling teammates. Sunset Lanes bowling alley is the location of his meeting his beloved wife, Mary, whom he consistently caused to blush. A number of years were spent working for Turbo Delivery where he continued his love of the public, making friends everywhere he went.
This man loved to garden, and sure knew how to make an eclectic gathering of plants and flowers; blueberries next to the honeysuckle, hostas, clematis, irises, vine maple, rose bushes, ferns, virginia creeper, lilac, crocosmia, tulips, crocus, mums, strawberries, and others, all gathered around his self designed lighthouse shaped gazebo.
We, his family and friends were blessed to learn so many valuable lessons from Harold during his 80 years, among them: Biscuits and gravy is the breakfast of champions and there was never a problem that couldn’t be solved with a walk in the woods. His spirit for life will be carried on by his wife Mary, 4 daughters, Chris (Aaron), Cheri, Carol (Tom) , Carrie (Craig) his beloved grandchildren Matthew, Amy, Stephanie (Alex), Nicholas, Isabelle, Henry, and great grandchildren, Kyla, Kaden, Kelsie, Katie, Phoebe and Cheyenne, brother Jr Conley (Geri), cousin Bill Channell (Wanda), uncle Arden Swiger (Ethel), Mary's sons, Dominic (Christine), Phillip, Kevin (Alicia), Justin (Cynthia), grandchildren, Jonathan, Monica, Daniel, Kimberlee, Tyler, Brooke, and Sophea, along with his much loved Langston family, Jimmy, Sherry, Tarver, Sweet Pea and Brewer and many more much loved friends like Charlene Dahle.
Some of Harold's favorite things to say were: Life is good. I love you and I like you. You're looking awfully pretty today. We live on God's little acre. Bye y'all. Hi Lovey, Hello Little Angel, Is this the prettiest girl in West Virginia?, What do you do for fun?
