Hazel Ann Barath Fry, 98, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2015 in the presence of her sister, Phyllis Miller, at the Rosewood Park Assisted Living Center in Hillsboro, Oregon. She left this world with much gratitude for the love and care provided by family and friends during her final illness, a small measure of what she offered the world during her life.
Hazel is survived by her only child, Phyllis Ann Rector, granddaughter Terri Stadtherr, grandsons Steve Rector, Bret Rector, Joe Rector, 4 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great- grandchildren. Hazel was born in Saskatchewan, Canada and her parents moved to the USA while she was still a young child. Hazel subsequently grew up in North Portland graduating from Jefferson High School (where the Principal of the school was the same principal "enjoyed" by her daughter 20-some years later.) Hazel worked many years at Good Samaritian Hospital in food service and also in the shipyards at Swan Island during WWII. She held other jobs as a waitress, child care provider, and working for a drug company filling the bottles of generic drugs, along with her daughter Phyllis. Hazel loved to travel, visiting her daughter and son-in-law while they were stationed in Germany and she visited Switzerland, Spain, France, Italy and taking a train trip with husband Joe into Hungary when it was still under communist control. She and sister Phyllis and their husbands also made several trips together throughout the USA. In her remaining years she resided with her loving sister Phyllis who was always at her side providing friendhsip and support. Hazel will especially be remembered for her positive outlook and she was the kindest, most loving and generous woman who shied away from attention and will be missed so much by all of her loving family and friends.
Services will be held for Hazel on Sunday, December 13th starting at 11 0'clock at Finley-Sunset Hills Mortuary.
