Helen Kammeyer was born in Caldwell, Idaho to parents William and Lilly (Shellhorn) Kammeyer on September 22, 1926. She was part of a very large family – the last of eleven children. She was raised in Caldwell and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1945. She attended college in Idaho and, in 1946, she made her way to Portland, Oregon. Upon her arrival in Portland, Helen found work as a waitress.
She married Reuben Huber in Portland, Oregon on February 1, 1947. Their first child, a daughter, Myrna, was born in 1948. Their second child, Pamela, was born in 1951.
Helen was a marvelous wife, a loving mother, and exemplary homemaker. In addition to her home duties, she worked outside of her home as a waitress. She was also regarded as a very talented seamstress and she provided custom tailoring, mending, and sewing services from her home. Helen enjoyed working with fabrics and sewing right up until the last days of her life.
From the time that she called Portland home, Helen was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. In 1957 she initiated a strong 4-H Club presence in the Ockley Green grade school area, and was an active leader for ten years. She later became involved as a member of Masonic groups including Order of Amaranth, Eastern Star, Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, and White Shrine of Jerusalem. Helen very much enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable garden. Though sewing and working with fabrics was her big love, her biggest love was her family and she shared her love in ways too numerous to count.
Helen is predeceased by her parents William and Lilly; and her loving husband Reuben. She was the last surviving member of eleven siblings.
She is survived by her daughters Myrna (Roy) Keller of Estacada and Pamela Naugle of Portland; grandson Micah Naugle of Portland; granddaughters Heather Regian of Vancouver, Rayna Keller of Portland, and Larisa Keller of Estacada; great-granddaughters Angela Dahlen, Andrea Dahlen, and Tommie Regian.
A memorial service will take place in Peace Lutheran Church, 2201 N. Rosa Parks Way, on Saturday, January 12th, 2013, at 10 a.m.
Helen will be privately laid to rest in Skyline Memorial Gardens.
