Helen Marie Austin Young

Helen Marie Austin Young was received into glory by her Savior on Monday, September 12, 2011,

at Calaroga Terrace in Portland, Oregon.

She was born in Fresno, California on October 11, 1917, to Lewis and Christina Austin. Helen graduated from Edison High School in 1935 and went on to business school. She worked for Newberry's and Sears-Roebuck, where she managed the hardware department.

Helen married Everett Young on January 25, 1947 in Fresno. They lived in Anchorage, Alaska, before returning to Fresno. They eventually relocated to Portland, Oregon, in 1950, where they owned and managed an apartment complex from 1951 to 1995.

After the death of her husband in 1994, Helen lived in several retirement communities in Fresno, CA., Everett, WA, and lastly in Portland, OR. Helen loved to garden. She loved people but most importantly, she loved her Lord Jesus Christ. She left that strong faith to her children. During her stay at Calaroga Terrace in Portland, she enjoyed the wonderful, loving care from the staff until she passed away.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Lynda Krestinski of Camano Island, WA; her son, Ervin Young of Portland, OR; 3 grandchildren - Ben, Anna, and Josh; 2 great grandchildren - Sky and Shane. Helen is also survived by her twin brother, Ervin Austin of Palo Alto, CA. Barbara Basilla of Fresno, CA, was also a special part of the Austin family. She was predeceased by half brothers Fred and Al and adopted sister Alice Burdick. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service for Helen on Friday, September 16, 2011, at 1:30 pm in the chapel at Calaroga Terrace, 1400 NE 2nd Avenue, Portland, with a reception following. There will be viewing on Friday 9/16 from 9 to 4:30 AT Caldwell's Funeral Home at 20 NE 14th Avenue, Portland, Oregon 97232. The phone number is (503) 232-4111.

The graveside service will be held on Saturday afternoon, October 1st in Fresno, CA, at Mountain View Cemetery under the direction of Lisle Funeral Home. Viewing will be on Friday, 9/30 at Lisle Funeral Home in F.
