With heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Hubert McDaniel, who passed away on May 22, 2023. Hubert was born on November 1, 1934, in Tacoma, Washington, to Tinia (Urich) and Hubert McDaniel.
Hubert proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1956, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Germany), and Good Conduct Medal during his service. It was while stationed in Germany that Hubert attended church and, at a Youth for Christ meeting, encountered the love of his life, Helga Roos. After his honorable discharge, Helga and Hubert returned to the United States and were united in marriage on February 15, 1957. Their union was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Michelle and Daphne, and their greatest joy came from spending time with their cherished children and grandchildren. Hubert's unwavering faith and commitment to his family were his top priorities.
Hubert pursued his education at Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland, Oregon, where he earned an Associate Degree in Pastoral Studies. A devout Christian and prayer warrior, Hubert actively participated in A.M.E.N. (American Military Encouragement Network), providing support and encouragement to soldiers, airmen, and sailors throughout Oregon.
Beyond his spiritual pursuits, Hubert found solace in nature and took great delight in birdwatching, tending to his garden, and nurturing his nine beautiful rose bushes. His humble and gentle heart endeared him to all who knew him.
Hubert is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Helga; his daughters, Michelle Missfeldt and Daphne Parker; and his granddaughters, Kari and Cassidy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tinia and Hubert, and his sister Marion.
A memorial service to celebrate Hubert's life will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, June 3rd, at Sunset Church, located at 14986 NW Cornell Road, Portland, Oregon. Following the service, Hubert will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony at Lincoln Memorial in Portland, Oregon.
During this time of grief, let us remember Hubert's remarkable spirit, his unwavering devotion to his loved ones, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness and faith. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to us all.
