In the Care of Finley-Sunset Hills Memorial Park
October 16, 1940 – March 19, 2026
Hui Man Chon, 85, passed peacefully on March 19, 2026, at Cedar Sinai Park in Portland, Oregon. His daughter was by his side. Born in Seoul, South Korea, on October 16, 1940, Hui Man served in the Korean National Police Agency for a decade, rising to the rank of Detective Sergeant. In 1974, Hui Man left law enforcement to pursue the American Dream in the U.S. territory of Guam. There, he met his beloved wife of 48 years, established an adoring family, and achieved success as a small business owner. In 2008, he and his wife retired to the Pacific Northwest, where they shared many fond memories before her passing in 2025.
A devoted husband and father, Hui Man’s intelligence and quick sense of humor were matched by his fiercely loving and protective nature. His vast collection of family photographs was a source of particular pride. A remarkable athlete, Hui Man excelled at soccer and golf. The latter appealed to his exacting mind, and his two hole-in-one trophies were prized possessions. Above all, his greatest joy was his family. Their travels were especially meaningful: touring New York City was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, and the grandeur of Washington, D.C. left a lasting impression. The bond that threaded his family of three was precious and profound. Hui Man is survived by his daughter, Alicia; his sisters, Hui Ra Lee (Dong Sun) and Hui Soon Chon; his brother, Hui Suk Chon (Margot); and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Young Soon Chon, and his parents, Duk Suk Kim and Kyu Heung Chon.
In keeping with Hui Man’s wishes, no formal service will be held. He will be inurned privately at Finley-Sunset Hills Memorial Park, where he joins his dearly departed wife.
Hui Man’s leadership, foresight, and indomitable spirit have left an indelible impact on his loved ones, and he will be deeply missed.
