Jean was raised in South Dakota, but moved with her family to Washington in time to graduate from high school there. They settled in Portland eventually, and on February 7, 1950 Jean married Clarence Gunter in Astoria.
She and Clarence enjoyed bowling and going to horse and dog races together. Jean liked watching soccer and baseball, collecting salt and pepper shakers and cardinal figures, shopping, and doing puzzle books, but she was truly happy when spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Mrs. Gunter was preceded in death by her son Mike Gunter in 1976, and by her husband Clarence in 2002. She was also preceded by her five brothers and sisters.
She will be remembered by
Children Dennis Gunter and wife Marty of Boise, ID, Donna Anderson and husband Rick of Oregon City, and Jerry Gunter and wife Debbie of Molalla, 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Private services will be held. The family would be grateful for donations in Jean’s name to a charitable organization of the donor’s choice that benefits our veterans.
