Ina McCaffrey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, at the age of 92. Born on April 2, 1934, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, to Agnes and Martin Martinson, Ina lived a long and meaningful life marked by resilience, generosity, and a quiet strength that anchored everyone who loved her.
On July 9, 1955, Ina married the love of her life, James F. McCaffrey, with whom she shared 47 years of partnership until his passing on June 18, 2002. Together they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family and friends.
Ina was a dedicated homemaker who created a household defined by stability, humor, and unconditional love. She also worked as a skilled bookkeeper for Jim’s law firm, contributing to the family business with her sharp mind and steady reliability.
Throughout her life Ina engaged in many activities, and attempted several, including bowling, golfing, and traveling with great friends Howard and Donna Laney, which included jaunts to Mexico, Hawaii, fishing in Alaska, and many other trips. Ina was so grateful for their company after Jim's passing, and Donna and Ina continued to have adventurous travels following Howard's passing. As Dad once mentioned, in addition to traveling, mom liked to go to dinner most anywhere, except the kitchen. One of Ina’s most favorite pastimes was attending Portland Trailblazer games. While she often attended with Donna, she eventually purchased season tickets along with her old high school friends and went for many a season. She even became involved in the Blazer Boosters for a long stint during retirement.
She was known for her sweet yet feisty spirit and her unwavering commitment to the people she loved. Whether offering a listening ear, free range access to the refrigerator, or a bit of hard earned advice, she had a gift for making others feel seen and valued. She found joy in simple pleasures—morning coffee, conversations with loved ones and strangers alike, and hosting gatherings that brought people together.
Ina was predeceased by her eldest son, Michael McCaffrey, on January 28, 2001, and her brother Alfred Martinson on April 2, 1999.
She is survived by her children Randy and his wife Angie, Lisa, and Amy and her partner Zack; her brother Ralph Martinson and his wife Judy; her seven grandchildren: Taylor, Cory, Kelley, Jamie, Devon, Kanen & Jesse; and her six great grandchildren: Cameron, Naia, JJ, Aylin, Matthew & Mack, all of whom will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
A public service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Skyline Memorial Gardens, 4101 SW Skyline Blvd., Portland, Oregon. Those wishing to honor Ina’s memory may do so by carrying forward her spirit of forgiveness, tolerance, and kindness in their own lives.
