James Richard Carroll

In February 1953 he married his best friend, Alice Lorraine Mylan. They raised their family of three daughters (Terry, Susan and Linda) and have five grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Linda preceded him in death in 1994. He is also survived by his niece, Marie (Tom) Basta of Beaverton.

Jim and Alice started their life together in Billings, Montana, moving to Boise, Idaho in 1967 and to Gresham in 1970.

The early years of their 62-year marriage were spent raising their family, a time that included camping, boating, PTA and father-daughter banquets.

After Jim’s retirement from Toyota Motor Corporation at age 54, he spent a few years restoring Mustangs and later became an income tax consultant. He was a history buff and spent many volunteer hours at the Oregon Historical Society. He loved classic cars and single-engine private planes; at one time he had his single-engine pilot’s license. He also enjoyed Volkswalking, square dancing, golf and travel (Japan, Hawaii, Bahamas and many places across the nation) He particularly enjoyed his years with Alice wintering in Green Valley, Arizona and exploring the southwest.

He was a member of St. Therese parish and was active in the XYZ (Extra Years of Zest) Club.
