Mr. James D. Cooney

December 19,1939 - April 12, 2010

Dennis was born to Jim and Irene Cooney in Willows, California, on December 19, 1939, and passed away unexpectedly on April 12, 2010, at the age on 70 in northern California.

When Dennis was very young, his family moved to Portland where he attended Sellwood Elementary grade School and Graduated from Cleveland High School in 1957. Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Air Force where he served in Europe

during his 4 year enlistment. Upon his return to Portland, he worked for publishers paper company and as salesman for the Western Union Telegraph CO.

Dennis married Shirley Halkinrude on July 22, 1967 and remained a loving husband, father, and friend until his death. The couple enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, camping, hiking, and spent many years traveling after their retirement.

Dennis is survived by his wife Shirley; son Brad (wife Brandy); Grandchildren Ryan James Edward Cooney and Kylee Ray Cooney; nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Gail Karstensen.

A funeral service and public reception will take place on Saturday, April 24, 2010, 1:00 PM in Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. Private interment will take place in Skyline Memorial Gardens Garden of Meditation.
