

James graduated from Central Catholic High School, and was a life-long member of the Catholic Church. He pursued higher education at Portland State University, ultimately obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration; Accounting. He also served his country as a member of the Army National Guard.
While working as an Accounting Manager at Pacific Power, James met Linda Larson, and the two fell deeply in love. They were married on Sept. 12, 1980, in Oregon City, Ore. The couple was blessed with two children, Greg and Cheryl.
James loved life; he enjoyed playing golf, going to the casino with his friends Wayne and Joe, whom he considered brothers. James loved the beach. He loved playing Monopoly, and was certain to catch every sports game he could. He was especially dedicated to hockey and basketball, specifically the Seattle Kraken, and the Portland Trail Blazers.
James had a green thumb, and took great pride in his yard. He was also passionate about his outdoor Christmas Lights, making sure they were displayed every holiday season.
James passed away peacefully, from bone marrow cancer, in his home on July 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; children, Greg Hamill and Cheryl Weisgerber (Keith); sisters, Liz Hamill and Mary Rose (Ron); grandchildren, Alex and Ben Rodriguez; and his “Princess,” Goldie, a Retriever, Bulldog mix. He joins in Heaven his granddaughter, Rebecca Weisgerber.
James will be remembered as a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was a hard-working man with a great sense of humor; and was a friend to everybody. He would often razz those around him in playful ways; a popular quote being, “just to be clear, we’re not laughing with you; we’re laughing at you.” James was a perfect, loving man and made other's lives better.
As per James' wishes, he will be cremated, and returned home.
