Janet Beardmore passed away on October 11, 2011, in Portland, Oregon. She was born on March 12, 1924 in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Russell and Marie (Symes) Ferguson. As a young girl, she spent summers on the family farm in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, where she learned to embroider with her grandmother. After graduating from high school, she moved to Portland. When she was in her mid-20s, she married J. Lawrence Beardmore in Portland, and after marrying, the new couple moved to Bellevue, Washington, to start a life together. Over her lifetime, Janet showed talent for many different types of careers, and she worked well into her 70s. She first began developing her skills working as a secretary in Portland and in Seattle. In 1961, she and Larry moved to Depoe Bay, Oregon, where they purchased a motel and began to operate it. After operating the motel, she transitioned back to her secretary roots and became an office manager at a doctor’s clinic. A couple of years after Larry passed away in 1974, Janet sold the motel and started selling real estate. She eventually transitioned into becoming a tax consultant for H & R Block. Janet was a long time member of the Lincoln City Congregational Church, and she enjoyed computers, painting, traveling to Hawaii and Mexico, and spending time with her family. A service was held on October 14, 2011, in Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to The Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research. She is survived by her daughters, Deirdre Beardmore-Thompson and Candace Beardmore, and 12 nieces and nephews.
