Janet Franz was born on January 11, 1931 in San Francisco, California to George and Katherine (Hilderman) Ritter. She passed away on June 20, 2015 in Portland Oregon at the age of 84 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease.
Janet was a dedicated mother to her children and carried on that tradition of love and care to her grandchildren later in life. She set the example for all when it came to faith, love and family.
As a young woman Janet enjoyed cooking comfort food for her family. Meatloaf and fried chicken were two of her specialties. For many years she worked as a legal secretary but still found time for her favorite pastimes of playing the piano and hiking the gorge. In more recent years Janet could be found visiting the warm sunny beaches of Mexico and Hawaii.
Janet had a wonderful sense of humor and absolutely LOVED to laugh. Her faith was so strong she would buy bibles and donate them to those in need. She was truly an exceptional woman, mother, grandmother and friend. We will miss her smile, we will miss her comfort and we will carry on the good work she has done for us all throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughter Brenda Conant; her sons Rick Staley and Mike Staley; her eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Janet will be laid to rest next to husband Leonard Franz at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland, OR 97086.
At Janet’s request family will not be having a public gathering but would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the kind and loving staff at Providence Elder Place. Their compassion and care has gone above and beyond the call of duty.
Donations in Janet’s memory can be made to her favorite charity, Billy Graham Evangelistic Association at billygraham.org.
