Jarrod Ross Nickoloff was born in Portland, Oregon on November 30, 1984. He was a son, brother, and a Portland attorney. Jarrod was a sharp critical thinker and interdisciplinary scholar. He attended Central Catholic High School, and went on to Washington College. He studied English with two minors - creative writing and physics - and graduated magna cum laude. He later graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law. Jarrod was a lifelong Portland area resident and your neighbor.
Jarrod loved stories and the art of telling them. He read, watched, and played everything. He was a talented artist, writer and author who loved to share obscure vocabulary and otherwise engage in wordplay. Any lazy conversation could drift into the perfect word selection, or proposed addition to the dictionary. His life was full of elaborate worlds and characters based in reality but never bounded by it. Never a hypocrite, he saw the world through a special lens.
Jarrod was strong willed and independent, but you could always count on him to show up for mom's potato salad or Jake's chocolate cake. Given the option he'd always order a soup course, french onion or chowder. And he was always up for an impossible game of Trivial Pursuit with his family afterwards. He was quick to answer, "John F. Kennedy" or "The Beatles" when playing the 60's.
His wit and strong sense of irony could make light of any situation in a heartbeat. And his critical mind could shred an argument or solve a complex problem as quick. Conversations were never dull for including him.
Jarrod passed on March 19, 2019. His time here was too short and his absence diminishes all our lives. Jarrod leaves behind his parents, Jeff and Kathy, and his brother Jeff Jr. We hope that - in whatever worlds he's visiting - he's met by colorful characters and has whatever he needs in his “bindle.”
