

Jean M. Whitford, born May 6, 1950, in Portland, Oregon, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, at the age of 74. Raised in Portland, Jean was the daughter of Don and Theatta (Teddy) Whitford, and her life was deeply rooted in the community she loved.
Jean earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Oregon State University, where she laid the foundation for a life of service and dedication. Though she never married or had children, Jean’s impact was deeply felt by all who knew her. She worked as an office worker and a census worker, always showing a commitment to her work and those around her.
A longtime member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Jean served for over 20 years on the church council, as the church fellowship lead, and as an office manager volunteer. Her faith and commitment to others were evident in all she did, and her presence was a steady and loving influence in the church community.
Outside of her work and church service, Jean had many hobbies that brought her joy. She was an avid reader, enjoyed walking on the beach, solving puzzles, and traveling throughout the United States. She was also a proud member of the Genealogical Forum of Oregon and looked forward to spending time at the Oregon State Fair. Jean's love for movies and her engaging sense of humor brought light to every gathering.
Known for her friendly, wise, and thoughtful nature, Jean was always there to listen, help, and share her knowledge. She had a great sense of humor and a kind heart, and was cherished by family, friends, and her community.
Jean is survived by her two brothers, Alan Whitford and Ray Whitford; her sister, Elaine Scott; four nephews, Chris, Matt, John, and Joshua; two nieces, Kay and Julia; and aunts Penny and Eleanor. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's memory to St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Portland, Oregon.
A memorial service will be held at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church. A family gathering will be held at Skyline Memorial Gardens.
Jean’s legacy of kindness, wisdom, and service will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have her in their lives.
