March 6, 1930 – November 30, 2022
It is with a heavy heart that our family announces the passing of our beloved father, Jim Calabrese. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather sadly passed away on Wednesday morning November 30, 2022.
Born Vincenzo Nicholas Calabrese on March 6, 1930 in Portland after his parents immigrated from Southern Italy. “Dad” later legally changed his name to how we all know and love him today, Jim. Jim graduated from Franklin High School and soon after high school he was drafted in the Army during the Korean War.
Dad was proud of his military service to our country where he completed a tour of duty on the front lines in Korea.
After dad’s commission in the Army was done, he returned to Portland. When he arrived back home he, along with his father and brother started Calabrese Sanitary Service in Southeast Portland. In 1955, he met and married the beautiful mother of ours, Joan Siri. For 38 years dad worked his tail off to provide such a wonderful life for his 4 children, Nick, Cindy, Tom and Joe.
Dad “Always” put his family first. Sure, dad had his studly exterior features, but it was his unselfish, caring, loving interior that made him the wonderful man he was.
Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joan: children, Nick, Cindy, Tom and Joe. Dad is also survived by his 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and on Thanksgiving this year we were able to tell him that he was going to be a great grandfather again.
He is preceded in death by his dad, Matteo, mother, Lucrezia and brother John.
Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, December 17th at 11am at St. Charles Catholic Church followed by a reception we invite you to in the Commons next to the church.
Dad touched many lives and will be sorely missed. He has created so many happy memories that we will be able to share for a lifetime. Rest in Peace, you deserve it.
