Joan B. Mowers was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to Parents Roy Otis and Anna Rosetta (Geary) Locke on August 20, 1919. She had a twin sister, Joyce; and a brother, Robert, Sister Marge. She had another sister, Phyllis that sadly passed away at a very young age. Joan was raised on a family farm and she and her siblings attended school in a one room schoolhouse and traveled via horse and buggy. She was raised in Calgary (Banff) Alberta, and later the family relocated to Surrey, , BC. As a young woman, Joan had a love for dancing and would frequent dance clubs with her brother Bob.
She met Kenneth W. Mowers in 1950 while visiting her brother who had relocated to Vancouver, Washington. Joan and Kenneth were married in Vancouver on December 16, 1950 and then lived in Hood River, OR, Kenneth’s home of origin. They had one son, Donald.
Joan will be remembered by her family as the family poet. Joan learned and memorized countless poems during her rural upbringing in Canada and throughout her life and her grandchildren and family loved to hear her beautifully recite them decades later, preserving a cherished family tradition.
Joan is predeceased by her parents Roy and Anna Locke; her loving husband Kenneth; brother, Robert Locke; twin sister, Joyce Hanning, and sisters Marge Irving, Phyllis Locke.
Joan is survived by her son, Donald Mowers, of Newberg, OR; four grandchildren, Heather Wolfley of Rigby, ID, Rebecca Livingston, Hemit, Calif., Donald Mowers, Jr., and Kiley Mowers; and seven great-grandchildren.

Joan will be privately laid to rest in Skyline Memorial Gardens, garden of the Sermon on the Mount
