Joanne Grace (Kropp) Crown

Our beloved Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Great Aunt Joanne passed away peacefully at Sunnyside Meadows Memory Care on March 31, 2021. She was born in Rome, New York to Stewart and Doris Kropp. Her early years were spent in Rome, Camden, and Oneida New York. In 1959 she moved to Portland Oregon with her family and graduated from Franklin High School in Portland in 1961. She attended Oregon State University.

In 1967 she married Sam Crown and their daughter, Erin, was born in 1971. Sam's job took the family all over the world, living in Virginia, Michigan, Utah, Taiwan, Korea, and finally settling in northern California in the 1980’s. Joanne worked in various administrative jobs in all locations, including for the Department of Defense, KNR Commissary Sales and Liberty Mutual Insurance. Joanne and Sam were thrilled to retire to Portland, Oregon in 2001.

Joanne’s loving and gregarious nature attracted many friends everywhere they went. She had a unique ability to make everyone in turn feel treasured. She loved dogs and owned many of Schnauzers through the years including Maxwell, Nigel, Molly, Lucy, Honey, and Zeke. She adored shopping, not for herself but for everyone she loved. She loved Christmas and was the Ultimate Gift Giver, for everyone, especially her grandson, Nathan.

Joanne is survived by her beloved daughter Erin, Erin's husband Sean, grandson Nathan, and step-granddaughter Madison. She also leaves her two sisters, Suzanne and Beverly, nieces Karen, Linda, Jennifer and Michelle, and 9 grandnieces and nephews. Joanne's husband Sam passed away on October 29, 2020.

Joanne's family would like to thank the staff of Sunnyside Meadows Memory Care for their compassionate care of Joanne for the past three years.
