December 27, 1943 – September 9, 2026
Joanne Douglass, 82, passed away on September 9, 2026. She was born on December 27, 1943, just outside Chicago, Illinois, to Marcy and George Martin. After growing up in the Chicago area and attending college for two years, Joanne married Wesley H. Douglass Jr. and began a family.
Joanne and Wes welcomed their daughter, Lisa, in 1966 and their son, Stephen, in 1969. The family lived in San Jose, California, before moving to Portland, Oregon, in 1973. Portland remained Joanne's home for the rest of her life.
Joanne worked at several department stores and helped keep the books for Wes' business before eventually working in accounts payable at Portland's General Tool until her retirement.
Joanne was a creative and talented homemaker who enjoyed baking and making many wonderful treats, including decorated cakes, Christmas cookies, pecan rolls, chocolate-covered éclairs, and, of course, her summer jams. She also loved sewing clothes and creating custom bunny rabbit dolls for family and friends. She enjoyed traveling as well, including trips to Mexico and Hawaii and a cruise through the Panama Canal. She was a devoted Oregon Ducks football and basketball fan.
After losing her husband, Wesley, in 1995, Joanne faced life with remarkable strength and became fiercely independent. Above all, she was a loving and supportive mother and grandmother who was always there for Lisa, Stephen, and her grandson Jared.
Joanne was an amazing wife to Wes and a devoted mother to her family. She knew firsthand the selfless sacrifices that come with being a mother and gave generously of herself to those she loved. She is survived by her sisters, Marcy and Suanne; her children, Lisa and Stephen; and her grandson, Jared.
She will be remembered for her strength, creativity, generosity, and unwavering love for her family. She will be missed every day.
