

Johanna Eleonora Howell, known affectionately as Hannelora, passed away on May 27, 2024, in Portland, Oregon. Born on December 12, 1941, in Munich, Germany, to Alphons and Maria Ann Kolbeck, Johanna lived a rich and vibrant life characterized by her curiosity and generosity.
Hannelora's career as an Allergy Lab Technician at Oregon Health Sciences University was marked by dedication and excellence, retiring in 2012 after many years of service. Her work impacted many, reflecting her caring nature and intelligence.
A traveler and adventurer at heart, Johanna's passion for exploring the world was paralleled by her love for reading, music, gardening, and art. Her intellectual curiosity led her to research various topics, enriching her knowledge and experience. Johanna leaned heavily Buddhist, observing many teachings of the Dalai Lama, which influenced her perspective and lifestyle.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Resi Kolbeck; niece, Susi Kolbeck; nephews, Thomas and Robert Kolbeck; and stepson and daughter-in-law, John and Sallianne Howell. Johanna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Howell, who passed away in 1976, and her parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 14th, from 3 to 6 pm at the Portland Ecotrust Building, Billy Frank Jr Room, located at 721 NW 9th Ave, Portland, OR 97210. Johanna's life and legacy will be honored in a gathering fitting for someone who cherished both the beauty of nature and the depth of human connections.
