John Cornelius Knight drove his Volkswagen Vanagon into his heavenly portal on January 27, 2025. His wife, Carol Biskupic Knight, was right next to the van sending him off with all the love he could possibly need to follow him into that realm, knowing what “A Wonderful Life” he had. His three kids, Rob, Phil and Mari, were able to have time with him and give him a proper send off. A celebration with beer, biking, and Vanagons honoring a Knight to Remember will be held at one his favorite brewpubs in March.
John, son of Mary and Willis Knight, and brother to Tom, Sue, Mary Kay, Joan, Paula and Beth, attended Queen of Peace Grade School and Central Catholic High School in Portland, Oregon.
John seized every moment of life, even when it threw several big curves, including memory loss, which did not slow him down until the very end. He continues to teach us how to live life each day.
We know that John would have shared that being a father gave him the utmost joy. Linked here is a Father’s Day tribute “36 Reasons I Love That You Are the Father of Our Children”, written by his wife, Carol, to John. She began writing it in 2019 when John had been a father for 30 years and added a reason every year since. (https://tinyurl.com/36-Reasons)
For an additional glimpse into the life of this incredible man, read a biography written by his oldest son, Rob, in March of 2019. It continues to be a tribute to him to this day. (https://tinyurl.com/JohnKnightBio)
Ways to honor John’s memory could include contributing to causes that were important to him in his life (Special Olympics, where he met Carol; The Alzheimer’s Association, he hoped would find a cure to this tragic disease; any organization supporting children and education, which were such a passion) or just go forth and do good in the world and connect with others.
