

John Edwin Portello, 79, of Beaverton, Oregon, passed away from heart failure on Monday, May 12th, 2025, at St. Vincent’s Hospital with his wife, Jody, by his side. John was born on June 16th, 1945, in Tacoma, Washington. He is survived by his wife, Jody Portello; his sister, Judy Spangrud; his son, Andy Portello; his daughters, Christy Fenter, Cassie, and Lindsay, along with his beloved grandson, Addison Fenter.
He was preceded in death by his mother Genevieve Jay, half-brother Thomas Cumming, half-sisters Cynthia Cumming and Cheryl Kaiser.
John spent 4 years in the Air Force, from 1963 to 1967, and received an honorable discharge with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was an avid car enthusiast who loved his 1993 Mustang Cobra SVT almost as much as he loved his wife, Jody! He was a founding member of the Ludicrous Speed Racing Team, an amateur speed racing team in the Pacific Northwest.
The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to all of the staff at St. Vincent’s Hospital for the care they provided to John and his family during his last few days. A memorial service for John will be held Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 1:30pm at Finley Sunset Hills Mortuary, 6801 SW SUNSET HWY, PORTLAND, OR 97225.
