John was born and baptized in Freeman South Dakota, moving to Oregon after high school to obtain a Forestry degree. John’s experience in surveying secured him a position with the US Highway Department in Oregon for which he worked 33 years. In 1965, he joined the Army Reserves, serving his country faithfully for 21 years.
John married Carolyn, his high school sweetheart, in 1967. They built a Christ-centered, faithful family (Christina, Gregory, Eva, Angela, Naomi) filled with music, hope, love, joy, and laughter. Through the grace of God, the family thrived, enjoying adventurous travel, camping, hunting, and fishing. John enjoyed engaging in all his children’s activities, whether they be homework, sports, music, church youth group, or new adventures. He was an enthusiastic cheerleader, a patient teacher, and a sage guide.
John was a discerning warrior for Christ, faithfully serving in the church where he was entrusted as head elder and Bible study leader for the majority of his adult life. He could always be found helping any person in need, whether they needed help moving a couch or needed to hear how Jesus loved them and saved them from their sins; he was a ready and willing servant leader.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Olga Stucky, and his brothers, Loren and Allen. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Stucky, their five children, their spouses, and eleven grandchildren.
A service will be held on Saturday, April 17th at 2pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 16000 S Henrici Rd, Oregon City. Due to Covid limitations, if you plan to attend, please RSVP by calling the church at (503) 632-5554.
