

Johnny James Moore was born to the union of Ollie Mae Moore and Thomas Moore. Johnny was the 1st child of five children. In the early 1950s, Johnny’s family migrated to Portland, Oregon.
Johnny worked at Safeway in the 1970s until he realized his true passion was to become an entrepreneur. He desired to do things his own way and was encouraged by his loving parents, family, and spouse who supported his decision to pursue his dreams.
In 1990, Johnny became self-employed and created JJ Lock and Key, and he never turned back. Through his dedication to his craft and his love for the community, JJ Lock and Key became a trusted and successful business that many relied on. His reliability, integrity, and compassion established him as a true pillar in the community.
He was known not only for his work, but for his heart. Johnny was one of the first Black locksmiths in Portland, Oregon, a trailblazer who opened doors not only in his profession, but also for those who would follow in his footsteps. Through his work, he earned respect, trust, and admiration across generations, building a legacy rooted in perseverance, excellence, and service.
Above all, Johnny loved his family deeply. He found his greatest joy in being surrounded by those he loved sharing laughter, stories, and moments that will forever be treasured. As a father and papa, he was a source of wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love. As a husband, he was devoted, loyal, and steady. As a brother and uncle, he was a constant source of support, humor, and guidance.
Johnny leaves to cherish his memories and find comfort in his legacy. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Yvonne Moore; his children Sherise Monic Ford (preceded in death), Funyika Moore, Lakisha Moore, Donnie Moore, Lionel Moore, and Raymond Moore; his 12 grandchildren Shefiron Seamster (preceded in death) and his sisters, Carryanne and Margaret.
He had a vibrant spirit and a joy for life that was contagious. Johnny loved to dance, filling every room with energy and laughter. He was drawn to positivity and made it a priority to uplift others, always offering encouragement, kind words, and motivation to keep going even in difficult times.
He was more than his profession and titles, he was a community pillar. His generosity, leadership, and kindness touched countless lives, and his legacy will continue to live on through the people he inspired and the family he loved so deeply.
Though he is no longer physically with us, his spirit remains alive in every lesson he taught, every life he touched, and every memory shared. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
