After the family moved to Salem, OR, he attended Englewood Elementary, Parrish Jr High, and graduated from North Salem High in 1958. That year, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served until 1963, and continued to be an active member of the 3rd Marine Division Association, serving as Treasurer until his death. Jon enjoyed playing golf and watching football games.
Jon is survived by Shirley Bautler Oster (his partner); daughters, Linda (David) Tedford, of Billerica, MA, and Ossipee, NH; Mary (Brian) Flett, of Bellevue, WA; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Robb (Linda) Haskins and other family members. He also enjoyed previous lives with Trudy Small (long-time companion) (deceased) and Barbara Glodt Haskins Williams, the mother of his daughters.
A committal service will be held in Willamette National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest.
