Today we remember Jonathan (Jonny) Paul Zogbi who fell asleep in the Lord on the morning of May 13th, 2026 at the age of 25. Jonny is survived by his Father, Subdeacon Gibran Zogbi, his Mother Lina Ibrahim Zogbi, his brother Antoine Zogbi with his wife Stephanie Matta Zogbi and their child Sophia, and his other brother Father Peter Zogbi, along with his two sisters Rita and Maria Zogbi. May his soul forever rest in peace.
Jonathan was born during a snowstorm, 3 weeks early in Denver, Colorado. He was always proud to mention that he was the only family member born in Colorado. From a young age, he demonstrated his unique personality. He was energetic as a baby, constantly climbing up the stairs, running around the neighborhood, and, on occasion, hiding from his older brothers as they searched frantically for him before Mom and Dad found out. This energy morphed into a competitive streak as he grew older. He achieved a black belt in Taekwondo, played high school football for a while, and became a wizard at Smash Bros.
As an adult he demonstrated a number of unique talents and passions. In his acumen as a mechanical engineer, he always had the mindset to “fly high”, fostering interests in aerospace until his condition forced him to discontinue his studies. On the topic of flying high, he had an intense passion for music composition, releasing a single titled “Sky High” in 2026 of which he and his family were incredibly proud.

Among all of his passions, nothing rivaled his zeal for the Gospel. His favorite Scripture verse was Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God, I am exalted among the nations; I am exalted in the earth.” Jonathan could be humble, and strong, mischievous and funny, solemn and sweet. His depth of character was rivaled only by the breadth of his love for his family and his faith.
Jonathan died as he lived, in love and service to Jesus Christ. In the words of his roommate, “Jonathan had an army of young people that were influenced by his faith and prayer life.” In a final moment of faith, he collapsed outside of the Proto-Cathedral of Saint James in Vancouver Washington, after completing his final holy hour before our Eucharistic Lord. His soul departed early the next morning on the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, the day before the feast of the Ascension of our Lord. The Gospel for the day was the raising of Lazarus. His life was bookended by another storm, a rare northwest thunderstorm, perhaps symbolic of his energetic personality.
Visitation will take place at Ross Hollywood Chapel on Thursday May 21st from 6:00-8:00pm (Rosary at 7). There will be additional visitation at his home parish, St. Sharbel Church on Friday May 22nd at 10:00am, immediately followed by the funeral liturgy starting at 11:00am. Burial will follow at St. Mary of Guadalupe Mission in Ridgefield, Washington with a mercy meal at the family home. May Jonathan’s soul rest in the peace of Jesus Christ.
