“Joni Sue" Wiedmeier, 61, of Hillsboro, Oregon, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 11, 2024. Born on January 29, 1963, in Mobridge, South Dakota, she was the beloved daughter of Melvin W. Wiedmeier and Shirley A. Lorence (Lowery).
Joni Sue’s life was marked by profound resilience and an enduring capacity for love. A life-changing automobile accident during her childhood reshaped the course of her life. Despite the emotional and physical challenges she faced, Joni Sue's spirit radiated warmth and light, leaving an indelible impact on everyone she met.
After the accident, Joni Sue and her mother relocated to Portland, Oregon, in 1968, where they found solace and support in their new community. Shirley, together with her husband, Mike Lorence, a Vietnam War veteran, became her devoted caregivers. Following Shirley’s passing in 2010, Mike lovingly continued as Joni Sue’s dedicated caregiver until his own passing in 2021. At that point, Mike’s brother Marvin generously stepped in to provide guidance and support. Additionally, Joni Sue’s devoted caregiver, Sue Reed, was like family and provided unwavering compassion and companionship for fourteen years. Their bond was built on mutual affection, deep respect, and an abundance of love.
Joni Sue graduated from Forest Grove High School in the No Child Left Behind program. Later in life, she attended the Edwards Center, a special place dedicated to supporting senior adults with special needs. Sue Reed lovingly ensured she could participate, taking her there and picking her up every day.
Joni Sue had a rare gift for finding joy in life’s simplest moments, and her love for mocha coffee was legendary. Her laughter was infectious, and her radiant spirit could light up any room. Her eyes, often sparkling with mischief and delight, reflected a heart full of love and a deep appreciation for the world around her. To know Joni Sue was to witness the beauty of a soul that found meaning and connection despite adversity.
Her extended family, friends, and caregivers will forever cherish Joni Sue's memory. Her strength, kindness, and the unconditional love she freely gave will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
She will be laid to rest at Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland, Oregon, reunited in peace with her family. Joni Sue’s legacy is one of resilience, love, and the power of the human spirit to rise above life’s trials. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
