Joseph Maynard Stone
February 3, 1926 – October 3, 2019
Joseph M. Stone age 93, died in his home in Portland, Oregon on Oct. 3, 2019. He was born in Kansas and moved to Portland with his family at an early age. He met his future wife, Billie Jo, while in grade school. He went to Benson Polytechnic High School in Portland but left before he graduated to join the Navy in 1944. He was later assigned as a Signalman, to the USS Bollinger, an attack transport ship serving in World War II mostly in the Pacific theater until he was discharged in May 1946. He and Billie Jo were married in 1947. He and Billie Jo later had two children, Sharon and Jim. He joined the Elks soon after Sharon was born in 1950 and was an active member up until his passing. He was involved in the many charities the Elks was associated with and held various positions within the organization. He was preceded in death by his wife and daughter.
He was a very active outgoing individual and made many, many friends along the way.
He is survived by his son Jim and his grandchildren, Jason, Sara, Ryan and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Willamette National Cemetery with full military honors on Tuesday Oct. 15th at 2:00 pm.
On the same day a “Celebration of Life” will be held starting at 3:30 pm at The Ainsworth House & Gardens in Oregon City. All of his friends are invited.
