Judy Gail Moats, 78, of Beaverton, Oregon, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. A Portland native, she spent her life embraced by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, a place she cherished deeply.
A proud Oregonian, Judy graduated from Beaverton High School and continued her education at Western Business College. She began her professional career at a Portland law firm before taking time to raise her family. Later, she returned to the workforce with the Better Business Bureau, where she remained committed to supporting fairness and integrity in her community.
Judy was first married to Jack Alan Wetzel, and together they had one son, Lacy A. Wetzel, whom she adored. On March 20, 1977, she married John G. Moats, with whom she shared a joyful and loving life. Her family also includes her stepson, John G. Moats Jr., whom she welcomed with warmth and kindness.
A woman of strong Christian faith, Judy was an active member of Beaverton Christian Church for over 40 years. She served faithfully in many capacities, especially as a choir captain, where she combined her love of music with worship. Her beautiful voice and joyful spirit were a gift to all who heard her sing. Judy also served as an auxiliary member of The Gideons International, offering encouragement and support to those in need.
Her early years as a Girl Scout laid the foundation for a lifetime of compassion, service, and leadership. Whether through ministry, music, or quiet acts of kindness, Judy reflected the love of Christ in all she did.
Judy is survived by her loving husband, John G. Moats; her son, Lacy A. Wetzel; her stepson, John G. Moats Jr.; her brother, John Moore; and her sister-in-law, Margerie Moore. She will be deeply missed by her extended family, church community, and all who were blessed to know her.
A memorial service celebrating Judy’s life will be held, with details to be announced soon.
May her legacy of faith, love, and grace continue to inspire all who knew her.
