Julie E. Haley, 69, a member of the St. John's community for nearly forty years, passed away on February 02, 2011 of natural causes. Julie was born in Portland, Oregon to Harold and Aleva Jensen. She attended a one room school house in Pleasant Valley and graduated from Washington High School in 1959.
Julie married John J. Haley in 1960. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Marie Rhodes and Deborah Suzanne Roberts, both of Portland; sisters, Marietta Wood of Salem and Louella Monroe of Lebanon; as well as her grandsons, John David Haley and Zachary James Rhodes of Portland.
Julie was caregiver and companion to her dear friend, Clara Ditter, for over twelve years.
She enjoyed quick witted banter; often turning clever phrases. She loved all animals and gently cared for them throughout her life. Every pet; and there were many; became part of the family.
Julie blazed through puzzle books, getting nearly everything right. Wonder words and crossword puzzles had no chance in her hands. She loved nature, bingo, bridges, Elvis, and Kojak.
She brought smiles to others everywhere she went. From the neighborhood grocery, to the bus stop, to the Dr.'s office - people adored her. Julie joyfully gave to those in need, though she had little.
Her relationship with God was an important part of her life. She attended Bethel Baptist Church in St. Johns. Several lifelong friendships were formed there.
Mama is much loved and greatly missed. She is peacefully reunited with her husband at Willamette National Cemetery.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Bethel Baptist Church, 7807 N. Fessenden Street in Portland at 2:00 pm. There will be a time of fellowship following the service at the church.
Arrangements under the direction of Ross Hollywood Chapel & Killingsworth St. John's Lombard Little Chapel of the Chimes, Portland, OR.
