Julie is survived by her husband of 53 years, Thomas E. Hanes, M.D.; her son, Russell Hanes; and her granddaughters, Penelope and Eleanor.
Julie devoted her life to family as a wife, friend, mother, and grandmother. She loved nature and was especially fond of animals, including her horses and dogs, as well as wild animals in her yard, such as groundhogs and hummingbirds. She developed a love for the elephants at the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee and looked forward to each Trunklines newsletter.
Julie was a creative person, designing her own homes, as well as writing poems and stories for her grandchildren, whom she adored.
Julie lived life with a sense of kindness for others and a contagious laugh. She enjoyed historical fiction, children's novels, and learning about people. Everyone who was fortunate enough to know her loved her and will miss her greatly.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.skylinememorialgardens.com for the Hanes family.
