Julie Yoo Min Horsfield

January 4, 1977August 27, 2019

It is with much sadness that we share the passing of Julie Yoo Min Horsfield. Julie was an incredible mother, a loving wife, a one-of-a kind sister, and an exceptional colleague and a dear friend to many. We lost her suddenly and way too early, but her memories are engrained in our hearts forever. Julie is survived by her two children, Ethan and Emma, and her husband, Scott.

Julie truly loved life and made genuine and lasting connections wherever she went. After graduating as a proud Hokie from Virginia Tech, she went on to meet her husband, Scott, while working in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. That’s also when she fell in love with running and became an amazing runner with multiple marathons under her belt. Julie was an avid sports fan as well and loved cheering on her Trailblazers with her son, Ethan. In addition, she was a beer connoisseur and could outshoot anyone at a pool hall.

Since moving to Portland, she fell in love with the beauty of nature of the Pacific Northwest. One of her favorite pastimes was visiting the amazing Oregon coast with her family. She also recently discovered her love for travel after an incredible trip to Iceland this summer. She is leaving us with a huge void in our hearts that can never be filled and we will miss her forever.

We will be celebrating the beautiful and amazing life of Julie at a private memorial service for family and friends. If you are traveling, Portland International Airport (PDX) is the closest airport. If you wish to send flowers, please contact Marina’s Flowers (971-570-3524) or Euphoria Florist (503-935-1180). However, in lieu of any flowers or other gifts, please feel free to donate to ASPCA or a charity of your choice in memory of Julie.

I only worked with Julie a short time, but she made an impression on me as someone with passion, energy, and kindness. I was looking forward to learning from her, and I am very much missing her experience and warmth. My heart is with her family. We miss you, Julie, so very much.

I am so saddened by the loss of wonderful wife, mother and friend. Julie will be someone I will remember often and with great fondness. I feel very blessed that our paths crossed. Julie and Scott became part of my family because Riley needed to have mid-day walks and some occasional boarding. I will miss my regular communications with Julie as her very kind heart always shown through. I will always be grateful that I got to know Julie.

I'll always remember Julie as a warm and kind-hearted person. She motivated me to start running again, I had forgotten how much I used to enjoy the freedom of running. She challenged me to take the stairs all the way to the 29th floor from the lobby. I haven't done that yet but I'm working on it. I fondly remember how Julie enjoyed her Milano cookies. It will be a while before I can bring myself to eat a Milano cookie. Julie's untimely passing has reminded me how fragile and finite life is. I miss you. Rest in peace, Julie.

I had the privilege of working with Julie on several projects and she brought a bright, sunny spark to even the most dire and toilsome of work. She came in knowing little about our organization and so quickly came to be an outstanding contributed. Her help was so welcome and desired even among a star team of program managers!

We will miss her energy, dedication and commitment.

I had the pleasure of knowing Julie over the last 4 years, when she joined my team at Nike. We clicked immediately! Her energy & humor was infectious. I remember a team-building exercise & she shared with the team that she is a “Zombie Apocalypse Prepper”. The looks on our faces were priceless as she explained that’s the primary reason she runs. 😇 Over time, we became close friends (even after she left Nike). I’m so sad that she is no longer with us, but feel blessed that I was one of the lucky ones that got to know her. My heart goes to Scott & the kiddos. She talked about you so often - so proud of her family. All my love & prayers to you.

It was only 10 months since I knew Julie and I am so glad I met such an amazing person in my life! I worked with her almost every day in the last 10 months and got to know her better both professionally and personally.
At work, Julie was the best of the best - she can handle any complex project and you can bet that the project will be successful. Everyone who she interacts with enjoys working with her.
It is no secret she is a huge Blazers fan, specifically Lillard. Few people who have watched the Blazers game with her can tell you that it is the best way to watch a Blazers game.
I miss her cheerful smile and the energy she brings to everyone around her!

I met Julie almost five years ago when I joined Nike and we sat next to each other. Julie's kind and fun-loving nature was incredibly welcoming, and we had many good laughs together. Julie and I became friends, and I would always appreciate the moments we would have catching up as the days became busier. Julie left us too soon, and will always be in our hearts. Julie was part of our running crew at Nike. What a wonderful person. Always smiling and positive. The sadness of her passing is great but we are all better people for having known her.

I was lucky enough to meet Julie when I first joined Nike. I'll always remember her kindness and generosity in helping me find my way in a new job and new city. She encouraged me to get back into running and I'm glad we had a chance to run together. She would slow down a bit so I could keep up.

I'll miss her incredible smile, laugh, and upbeat attitude. Always up for a challenge, always treated people with respect, and had a talent for bringing people together. Our hearts go out to Scott, Ethan, and Emma.

Although I only had the pleasure of knowing Julie this past year, she is one of the few people in my life with whom I became fast friends. Julie was so genuine, warm, funny and caring. She was a great listener who encouraged me to be my best not only at work but also as a person. I will have to start following her advice to take up running! It would be just one of the many gifts I received from knowing her.

I feel fortunate for my time with Julie and so sad to have lost her too soon. May her memory be a blessing to all that loved her.
