

Kai Wayne Chin passed away at his home on October 19, 2014 in Portland, Oregon. He was born on December 19, 1931 in Caton, China, to parents Man Fo Chin and Foon Kwie (Yeung). In 1951, Kai moved to the United States, seeking new opportunities. He joined the US Army, and served from 1956-1958. In 1959, he returned to Hong Kong to marry Lavina (Woo), and together they had 2 sons. Kai worked at the Pagoda Restaurant for many years, until he opened his own restaurant , the Chines Pavilion in Hazeldell, Washington. After 20 years he sold his restaurant , but continued to help friends with their own places until he finally retired for good. After retirement, he began working for his family as a "daycare specialist" to his grandchildren.
Kai was a hardworking man. He was always willing to help family or friends in need, and stayed very active in the Chinese community, serving in many leadership roles. Kai enjoyed going to dog and horse races, following Oregon State sports and playing solitaire on the computer. Most of all, Kai relished the simple moments with his family, like watching Chinese movies with his wife and spending quality time with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by many.
Kai is survived by his wife, Lavina; sons Jason (Julie) Chin and Gilbert Chin; grandchildren Cameron and Emily Chin, and his two sisters. A visitation will be held from 12pm-4pm on Sunday October 26th at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Monday October 27th at 11:00am at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Kai will be laid to rest with military honors at Willamette National Cemetery following the funeral service.
