

Kaliope (Kali) Mary Michos was born in Portland Oregon on January 24, 1921. She graduated from Jefferson High School and had planned to attend Willamette University until she met Vlasios. Kaliope was married to Vlasi Michos of Corinth Greece; they were married 12 years. He passed away in 1954.
Kaliope worked as a bookbinder for Lane Miles Standish Printing Company until she retired in 1982. Her family and preserving her Greek heritage impacted her life. She was actively involved in Daughters of Penelope, Philoptochos, Maids of Athena advisor. Kaliope traveled the world and loved to share her stories. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining preparing Greek meals and pastries. Her table welcomed many family members and friends. She was proud of her flower gardens and yard. She also was an avid golf fan and loved to swim. At the end of each year Kaliope wanted every needy child to be remembered and helped with her donations to better their lives.
Kaliope Michos is survived by her daughter Elaine and grandson Nicholas; three sister in laws, Helen Varkados (Portland), Despo Varkados (Vancouver) and Angele Varkados (Paris); loving nieces, Margaret Varkados Shultz (Boring), Ann Varkados (Vancouver), Margaret Jane Varkados, and Chrisoula Varkados Pappademos (Elk Grove, CA); Margaret Varkados-Lemarechal (Paris) and Mary Varkados (Paris); loving nephews, George Varkados (Troutdale), Evangelos Varkados (Vancouver); adopted nieces, Kay Stredwick (Vancouver) and Brenda Miller (Eugene); 5 great nieces and nephews Jacob Shultz (Anchorage, AK), Katy Pappademos (San Francisco, CA), Christos Pappademos (Boston, MA) , Heidi Shultz (Vancouver) and Dimitri Pappademos (Elk Grove, CA) ; 4 great-great nieces and nephews, Stephane Lemarechal, Astrid Lemarechal , Theron Shultz and Sophia Nelson; many cousins and friends.
Kaliope is now in heaven united with her husband Vlasios; mother and father, George and Margaret (Georgeades) Varkados; brothers Demetrius, Dennis, and Nicholas.

Trisagion will be on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 7:00pm in Caldwell’s, Hennessey, Goetsch & McGee Funeral Home, 20 Ne 14th St., Portland, OR, 97232. The funeral service will be held at 10am on Thursday, December 31, 2015 in Holy Trinity Cathedral, 3131 Ne Glisan St, Portland, OR 97232. Father Paul Paris Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Portland Oregon and Father Constantine Pappademos of Saint Katherine’s Greek Orthodox Church of Elk, California will be officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at 12:30pm in Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 Mt. Scott Blvd, Portland, OR 97086.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Shriner’s Hospital for Children of Portland and Providence Hospice of Portland.
