Karen was born on Sept. 11, 1947 in Portland to Chet and Alice Haskett. From oil painting to calligraphy & collages, art and creativity was always a constant comfort in Karen's life. Her claim to fame was her hand sculpted dough art and repurposed robots, planters and so much more, always pushing creative boundaries and trying new artistic trends. She will be remembered for her exquisite creations for Festival of the Trees, her contributions to Artistic Portland, and for her own store, The Wren's Nest, where she cultivated many friendships during an integral time of her artistic journey.
Karen's legacy will live on through her family, her impact on the artistic community of Portland, and countless friends made through the years. She will be remembered as we continue to do a few of her favorite things: making art, playing games, watching movies, and taking beach trips.
Karen was married to Steve Friedstrom for over 25 years before his passing. She is survived by daughters, Rachel Friedstrom and Emily Heisler; grandchildren, Megan, Sarah, Haley, Tyrus and Cydney; and great granddaughter, Stella Stevie Joan.
