Karen was born in Monmouth, Illinois, on October 10, 1941. Her family moved to Banks, Oregon when she was 2 and later moved to Portland where she graduated from David Douglas high school. She was married to Frank Hicks for 41 years before his passing in 2008.
Karen is survived by her two sons, Brian and Gary, daugher-in-law Kristen, her grandsons, Ashton and Kellen, and granddaughter, Kira. Also important to her were her sisters-in-law Sandra and Barbara, numerous nephews and nieces, and their partners and children.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 10 at 11 am at Milwaukie Lutheran Church, with a luncheon reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Clackamas County Libraries.
