Karrie Linn Locke, 68, of Lake Oswego, Oregon, passed away due to complications from chemo treatment on June 15, 2026. Born on September 18, 1957, in Pomona, California, to Arthur and Joanne Wilkie, Karrie lived a life of love, dedication, and selflessness.
Shortly after she was born, Karrie’s family moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon, where she spent most of her life. Her formative years included two memorable years in St. Croix, an experience that left a lasting impression on her. Karrie later pursued higher education at Portland State University, earning her master’s degree and laying the foundation for a remarkable career in teaching.
Karrie’s passion for education was unparalleled. She began her 44-year teaching journey at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School before moving to Laurelhurst School. Teaching was not just a profession for Karrie; it was her calling. She taught kindergarten, first grade, and second grade with unwavering patience and love, treating each student as if they were part of her family. Her classroom was a place of warmth and encouragement, where students thrived under her guidance. Karrie had an extraordinary ability to make every child feel valued and supported, fostering their growth both academically and personally.
Karrie met the love of her life, Roger, at Portland State University. Their first date was a Jimmy Buffett concert on June 3, 1978 and their connection was instant. They moved in together shortly after meeting and married on March 20, 1982. Together for 48 years, they built a beautiful life in Lake Oswego and raised two daughters, Ashley McKay (Nathan McKay) and Taimarie Locke (Alan Nimblette). Karrie’s devotion to her family was boundless. She was not only a loving wife, but also a deeply devoted mother whose unconditional love was the heart of her family. She celebrated her daughters’ accomplishments, guided them through life’s challenges, and always made them feel supported. She set an inspiring example of what it meant to be a working mother, balancing a successful career while remaining fully present for the people she loved most.
Karrie’s nurturing spirit extended to her grandchildren, Jacob, Lucas, Nico, and one more grandchild soon to arrive. She cherished every moment she spent helping care for each of her grandsons during their first years of life, from nap time cuddles to color-of-the day, snack time messes to Grandma story times, reading in a rocking chair to clapping circles, Karrie created lasting bonds and memories. Her grandchildren were a source of immense joy for Karrie and her love will always remain with them.
Beyond the classroom and her family life, Karrie’s legacy is one of unconditional love and selflessness. Her daughters fondly recall visiting her classroom and witnessing how Karrie’s face would light up as she engaged with her students. She had an innate ability to make others feel important and loved—a gift that left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Karrie’s kindness was endless; she cared deeply for people and animals alike. Whether it was offering extra help to a student in need or tending to a bunny in the yard, she approached every situation with compassion and generosity.
Karrie is survived by her beloved husband of 44 years, Roger Locke; her daughters Ashley McKay (Nathan McKay) and Taimarie Locke (Alan Nimblette); her grandchildren Jacob, Lucas, Nico, and one grandchild soon to be welcomed into the world; her mother (Joanne Wilkie); her sister (Kimarie Russell); brother/sister-in-laws; nieces and nephews. She is also remembered by countless students whose lives she touched throughout her decades-long teaching career.
