

Born January 6, 1927, in Thessaloniki, Greece, to Peter and Marika Jamison, Katherine Louise Gross passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, in Portland, Oregon.
Raised in Julesburg, Colorado, Katherine graduated from Julesburg High School before earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Colorado at Boulder. It was during her college years that she met Lyle James Gross, whom she married on October 10, 1954, in Denver, Colorado. Together, they shared 53 years of marriage until Lyle’s passing in 2007.
Throughout their married life, they lived in several communities, including Monterey, California; Honolulu, Hawaii; Camas, Washington; Cincinnati, Ohio; Falun, Sweden; Longmont, Colorado; and later, St. Helens and Portland, Oregon.
Katherine dedicated 30 years to teaching first and third grade at Oregon Episcopal School in Portland, where she inspired countless young minds. She was also an active volunteer at the Rental Sales Gallery and the Portland Art Museum, enriching her community through art and service.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Marika, her son Brian and her loving husband Lyle. She is survived by her remaining two children,Tanya, and Kevin Jamison (married to Eden), Brian's wife (Fredrika) and five beloved grandchildren, Sophia, Nick, Annie, Kate, and Ben.
A private burial will be held at Willamette National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable contributions be made to the University of Colorado at Boulder or the Portland Art Museum in her memory.
Katherine Louise Gross will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
