Khean was known for being a hardworking and dedicated person. He loved the simple things in life like working on house projects or spending time with his family. Many will remember him with his large camcorder in hand recording birthdays, graduations, and weddings. He could always be seen with his savvy fashion style driving around in Honda Accord or later in life with his fedora riding in his scooter.
Khean was born on September 4, 1934 in Chong Kal in Oddar Meancheay province in northern Cambodia. Educated and involved in politics, Khean was recognized and respected as a strong leader by the people of the area. He dedicated his early life to working towards freedom from French colonization, work he continued until 1975 when he and his family were forced to flee from the Khmer Rouge.
Khean arrived in the United States in 1976, where he had been sponsored by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Chith and Saly Phromnopavong. His strong leadership continued from the states, as he continued helping his people at home by fundraising and building schools and temples.
Khean Khut is survived by his sister Saroun; his children, Sopha, Sakhenn, Sokheng, Sophal, Sophat, Sophy, and Chetra; and his 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
