Koang Hwa Kung, lovingly known as "John Kung," passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Portland, Oregon, on December 21, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on September 14, 1933, in China to Shih Kuang Kung and Zen Ching-Ru, John’s life was a testament to resilience, dedication, and the enduring power of family values.
From an early age, John was instilled with a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the bonds of family, principles that shaped his extraordinary life. Facing life’s challenges with courage and perseverance, he built a foundation of love, strength, and wisdom that inspired all who knew him.
John married the love of his life, Youn Jan Hsu, and together they created a family rooted in the values of unity, determination, and hard work. His brilliance and determination led him to achieve a Master’s Degree in Engineering, propelling him into a successful career as a Metallurgical Engineer, where he earned the admiration of his peers before his retirement.
A man of remarkable intelligence, humility, and focus, John left an indelible mark on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of integrity and resilience continues to inspire his family and will guide future generations toward success and prosperity.
John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Youn Jan Hsu, his father, Shih Kuang Kung, and his mother, Zen Ching-Ru. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and grand-doggies, who will forever cherish his memory.
John will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for the warmth, love, and wisdom he shared with his family and friends. His life was a beacon of hope and an example of what is possible when guided by strong principles and an unwavering commitment to those we love.
John will be laid to rest at Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland, Oregon. His love and legacy will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends. John Kung will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
