On your 18th birthday, in 1967, a bunch of us went to see The Who at the Village Theater (soon to become the Fillmore East). One of the many happy memories I carry of you, dear friend. Thinking of you today.

Larry, I miss you. I notice it when I feel tangled up and need your quiet voice and knowing hands to help me restore balance.

I am late hearing about Dr. Novick's passing.  He was indeed a healer and I suspect a pioneer and force in his field. He helped me during and after pregnancy and later helped my sweet daughter. Moving across the river, a full time job and kids kept me from seeing him the last few years. Everyone who has commented has said it: Larry was tremendously kind, gentle, brilliant - a brilliance of the heart and mind working together. I am so grateful for everyone's comments, which helped me move through my own sadness, and see the enormous fountain of light that emanated from this beloved giant. That light is still in the universe, the cosmos, the ether, whatever it is that God holds in his hand. And Larry is shining his light there as we speak. The bonds he has made with all of us are palpable in these comments. I will cherish all your memories, as well as my own, and I know we will all love this guy forever. How could you not?

It is with great sadness and a sense of loss of one of the best people I ever met that I offer you my condolences on this loss. Larry, I will miss you but keep you in my heart.

We were so shocked and saddened to learn of Larry's sudden death.  Our love and prayers are with the family.  Kris'good friend became our friend.

Larry was always a gentle presence whenever I ran into him at a seminar or occasionally around town. I always silently marveled at his gentle demeanor and wondered how I could be more like him!
He was truly a wonderful doctor and person!

Larry was my next door neighbor in the Bronx for 18 years.
We played and pestered each other for years.
When we met at the reunion with fellow Bronxites, he had morphed into a transcendent, magnificent man! Great loss,,,

I heard the news today, oh boy.   I feel such a great loss.  My heart goes out to Kim and to Larry's beloved wife and family for this profound loss.    

Larry was the very embodiment of integrity and a rare, shining example of a life well lived.  Larry's kindness and wisdom comforted and guided me so many times, I often told him I wished he were my Dad.     I came to him disempowered and afraid with scary x-rays in hand.  In sacred space, Larry looked me in the eye and listened without judgement.  Then he gently set aside the X-rays - the diagnosis, the pictures didn't matter,  the bones would shift as muscles released.   We healed that injury and much more in the next few years, because Larry was a true healer that empowered his patients.  Sacred, sacred space.   

Angel Doctor Larry, I can see your grin and hear your giggle.   I profoundly miss your physical presence.    I take comfort knowing the magnificent reception you surely received on the other side.  Thank you for bringing your light to us.  I am grateful and better for having known you.  Shine on, bright light.

I was a patient of Larry's for 18 years, and brought my husband and two sons under his care as well.  Larry's office was a sanctuary.  My trust in him allowed my 'release' to his touch and wisdom each time I visited.  His kindness, respect, and artistry will not be forgotten, nor do I expect to encounter it again in another practitioner.  Godspeed, Larry.  And I am holding your family and Kim in my thoughts.

In addition to what I said earlier to the family and Kim, I'm passing along the comment from my son, John Ceniceros. He and his children, Pasha and Avery, and I have all been grateful patients of Larry's for quite a few years, and we all miss him and will continue to do so. John said: "I am crushed. I am so sorry for Larry's family's loss. He was an amazing man who provided my family with wonderful care over a number of years.  My deepest condolences.

I had to wait some time before being able to write this. I'm still in shock and will feel the loss of Larry for all my life. 

I met him when he and my former husband were in chiropractic college together at Western States. Larry began taking care of me around 1981 -- 34 years ago. 

His technique was always excellent, but what was amazing was to see it, and him, evolve over the years as he learned new approaches and incorporated them into his practice. 

More amazing yet was to be the beneficiary of his own personal work and growth which was clearly sincere and ongoing.... to receive the healing touch that was a powerful blend of his mind/knowledge of the body's systems and his heart/soul knowledge of where you were blocked and how he could help open and release those pathways. 

And always..... to breathe. I used to tease him, "Oh that? Again?" 

Being a fellow originally-from-NY-Jew, I also grew up with that style of humor, which can sometimes be snarky, and also, I think like him, had worked in myself to gentle those responses over the years. 

We'd have a good laugh, with a shared touchstone, and with a shared awareness of not just where we came from, but where we wanted to be: Here. Now. 

I want to say, too, that reading these entries in the guest book is like being in Larry's treatment room: being one among a circle of people who are seeking to atune their bodies and lives, who recognize that effort in themselves and one another, and who deeply deeply treasure what Larry was able to add to that journey, his incredible gift, as so many of you have said. 

I add my voice to yours, so sad for losing him, so appreciative of his service to all of us. I will treasure the memory of this truly wonderful man.

Larry's friends at the Portland Branch of the Taoist Tai Chi Society chanted the Goon Yam Jue Ban Miu Ging/ Collected Sutras of the Boddhisattva of Compassion for him on Sunday morning July 26th, 2015.

I will cherish the compassionate care I received from Larry and I am deeply saddened by his passing.  It is another reminder to thank those who do good things for us each day.  He was a caring person who helped his patients have a healthful life.  His gentle approach and suggestions for self help options were always appreciated.  Many thanks to his family and Kim who are working so hard to provide a smooth transition for our care.  My heart goes out to you--his family and Kim in this difficult time. May you find peace in my gratitude to Larry and that of his other patients. Blessings to all of you.

Being Dr. Novick's patient for close to 25 years I know I will have a hard time accepting his absence.  
I called the office for an appointment and to find out he was on vacation.  After receiving the news about his death I called the office a few more times in disbelief and just to hear his voice, and try to remember it.  
Dr. Novick's calming presence and wisdom was always there; his healing touch was gentle and so real!

I am devasted to hear the news that we lost such a special, gentle, soft soul! Dr. Novick was a very special and talented man! He helped me get through my two pregnancies and help my family as well. We are saddened to learn of the death of a great person and a fabulous healer with magic fingers.  We have seen Dr Novick as patients for over 20 years.  We hold him and his family in our hearts and in our prayers.  He leaves a big crater that won't easily be filled.

Larry was an exceptional human being, a true healer who shared his gift and inspired others just by being in his presence.  I think many of us fell a little in love with him, with hearts full of gratitude for his amazing gift. It is difficult to think of him no longer with us, and my heart goes out to his wife and sons, and Kim, and close family and friends,  who knew him best and loved him deeply. It's hard to speak of Larry in the past tense for his beautiful spirit lives on forever in the hearts and minds of the many people who knew and loved him. I remember he humbly called his practice an eclectic approach which included a few well placed words and a transformational light touch. Suddenly I was able to breathe easily, pain free, with an overall peaceful feeling. His great healing started from the minute I walked into his office enjoying a new insightful life quote, written in the entry. One of my favorite quotes seemed to describe his healing approach: "My salvation is to hear and respond. For this, my life must be silent.  Hence my silence is my salvation." Thomas Merton. I will miss him so much, a greater person, healer, and spirit there will never be. I am so grateful for knowing this amazing soul who touched my life so profoundly. What an honor it has been for my path to have crossed Larry's gentle, grounded and healing presence for the last 13 years.  I was able to see him for the last time a few days before his vacation. I asked him if he was going to SF.  We both had sons about the same age living and working in San Francisco and we would share stories and see who had been to SF most recently to visit.  He said he was traveling to Aruba.  As I left the office this last time I asked Kim if Larry had even mentioned retiring because I already knew there would be no replacing him when the time came.
The time has come.  I will treasure your healing gift.

I am shocked!  Larry was a classmate of mine in Chiropractic College. We sat next to each other in class, had many study sessions together, we stressed, we cried, we laughed, but we made it through! We are still in shock that Dr. Novick is gone from our lives.  He healed us all, and there was no greater testament to that then when both my daughters would absolutely beg to go see Dr. Novick and his 'magic hands' as they called them. It has taken a few days to come to the place where I can put my thoughts into words.  I have seen Larry for chiropractic care for nearly 20 years.  Many times when I was in the office receiving treatment, I would say a silent prayer of thanks for Larry, and that I had someone like him to go to as a part of getting and staying healthy.  I will truly miss him - as he was always a positive, healing influence.  But I have decided that if I just continue to do all of the things he taught me, take the advice that was given over the years - I will continue to be in better health because of him for the rest of my life.  He was truly a gift.

Larry was such a caring person and professional. He took such good care of me after my knee replacement when my lower back went out from the physical therapy. He also referred me to a wonderful masseuse and acupuncturist. He was always there for his patients, even those who couldn't afford his services..He will be greatly missed by all. Though I cannot attend the remembrance today, the comments here in this guest book provide much solace and reverence and to them I would like to add my own. Larry represented the true potential of the human spirit - strong, gentle, kind, equanimous. Breath by breath, he guided us towards that place in ourselves. I bow with celebration and gratitude for Larry and the significant contribution he has made to my life and so many others over the years. At times like these, my go to healer was Larry. Now I am a little lost. My heart aches and I will remember how he would whisper to me to breathe into my heart. My body and spirit would relax and start adjusting just by lying on one of the tables. Larry saw me and knew me in his silent gentle way more than most people I have shared much more time with. He was my wizard healer and still will be. I can't tell you how much I already miss his looks, his smiles, his unique gestures and his depth of intuitive, humble healing. He never took credit for the work--it was a joint effort and he gave most the credit, if not all the credit, to his patients. I am a better person, practitioner and parent having known and loved Larry. My 11 year old daughter, Indigo, was also touched deeply in her heart by knowing Larry. He only treated her a few times, but that was enough. We have shared many tears together since we learned the hard news of his passing last week. She summed it up well, "Sometimes you don't know how much someone means to you until they are gone." Larry, you are here in our hearts and smiles forever more. This heartache and shock trauma is hard to bear, but we will all be okay. We are all better having known you and called you friend.

We met with voice and hands. In the beginning he received in a yoga class which I taught. He and Yvonne attended class for a long while. Then in time I received of his voice and hands in the strange and wondrous web of five chiropractic tables in his office. The tables were arrayed radially as a fragment of a circle of immense diameter. Though there is a system of network chiropractic, what he wove in this space was his own. He had freedom; to observe, assess, assist and shower bits of mirth. Touch can have myriad meanings and nuances. In his I found purposeful and directed playfulness. We part with sad voice and folded hands.

Dr Novick saved my life. In 1980 I herniated a disc in my back and Larry took me on as a new patient on a Saturday. He remained my Chiropractor until we moved in 1998 to the east coast. I have used several Chiropractors since, and none have ever measured up to what Larry did for me. I am still pain free to this day because of his care and advice. Thank you Doc.

My sincere condolences to all of Dr. Novick's family, friends and patients.  He's been my chiropractor since the 1980s and he was an amazing healing.  So caring and thoughtful.  He will be greatly missed.

I still can't believe he is gone. Such a shock. My thoughts are with you Yvonne and Kim. The space he leaves is huge. His magical energy was unique but everlasting. I will miss you and always carry your healing and humorous phrases with me. Im thankfull my whole family benefitted from your healing.

Larry's passing is so hard to fathom. The sadness is constant. There was no finer person in my life. We connected in high school with our love of folk music, Bob Dylan in particular. We always had the music, though there was so much more. From the funny, fun-loving teenager I knew back then, to the beautiful man he became, there was never a friend for whom I had more respect and admiration. One couldn't help but gravitate to him. His gentle presence could provide immediate comfort. His measured words, his delicious sense of humor, and the heartfelt humanity he was always willing to share were qualities I cherished, and will miss terribly. 
I loved my friend of 52 years dearly. Such an enormous loss to us all.

Larry helped so many people have much better lives. I referred to him often. He will be terribly missed in the Portland healing community.

I was so lucky to have my practice at the 511 building a few floors down from Larry for the last 7 years, privileged to  have elevator rides, hallway and lobby chats all the time, and  rarely a lunch together.    A few moments with Larry, like his  gentle chiropractic, ran deep and had a lasting impact difficult to describe.   He was so gifted,  a truly remarkable person. Although miles have separated us throughout the years, we are family, and family remains eternally. We are deeply saddened to have to extend our heartfelt condolences to you at this time. Larry was a wonderful person, a caring husband, a devoted father, and a superior practitioner. We were very sorry to see Larry so sad at Philip's funeral. It was unfortunate to reconvene under such somber circumstances. Philip loved Larry, and in turn Larry loved Philip. The bond of these two brothers was and never will be broken. Larry called both of us often after Philip's death, and was gentle as well as very comforting to us. Hopefully we can extend the same comfort to all of you during your time of need.  I am so thankful for Dr. Larry, and I admired him so much. He was my healer and my friend for 26 years, and I am  heartbroken and saddened by his passing. It is without hyperbole that I have always said that Larry saved my life.  He released me from chronic pain in such a gentle and kind way. He was such a blessing on this planet. My deepest heartfelt condolences to Yvonne, David and Daniel.  I was a patient of Larry's for over 20 years.  He was more than just my chiropractor; he was my healer and friend.  I always looked forward to our appointments knowing that I would feel so much better afterwards.  Larry was wise, patient and had a very calming influence on me.  He was a very important part of my life.  I am thankful that I got to see Larry on his last day at the office before he and Yvonne left for Aruba.  Words cannot express how much I, and so many others, will miss him.  I also like to extend my condolences to Kim, Larry's assistant, who worked along side Larry for many years.

My heart goes out to everyone who had the incredible fortune to know and be touched by Dr. Larry's peaceful and loving presence. Dr. Larry; I can think of no one else so gentle and wise. The healing your hands and spirit bestowed upon me over the last 15 years has been truly remarkable.  Much love to you and your family. There is an empty spot in my heart recognizing I will not see you again in this life. Sincerest condolences to all.

I don't quite know what to say. My son and I have been coming to see Larry at his clinic for many years. Larry was a figure of comfort, wisdom and kindness. He was a true inspiration. His gentle knowing hands and the clarity and calm in his eyes eased and guided us through times of suffering.  I can only hope that his family and Kim find as much comfort and love and support during this time as possible. My heart goes out to you with my condolences.

Larry was a soft spoken and gentle healer who truly cared about our health. He will be remembered for his kindness and talents. We are sending our prayers to his family and to Kim who always had a bright smile.

Larry was one in a million human being.  A true mensch - exuding with kindness and service to our world.  His warm smile, hugs and handshakes were well welcomed by many patients and friends. Although we moved away from the Portland area in 2007, the office phone number is still engraved in my mind. Larry took such tender care of our family and so many of our friends.  Our hearts are breaking for his family as well as Kim who always  greeted us with a smile and laughter. The Clary family sends you all love, light, and healing energy from Central Oregon.

My wife, Julie, worked with Larry before I did and had a very spiritual connection to him.  I worked with him only for about a year and my connection was more of receiving much physical help from a very subtle, gifted healer. I always found him to be a very warm, loving man and I felt very warmly towards him.  I will miss my monthly contacts with him.  It's hard for me to accept that he's gone.

Dr. Novick was a wonderful person who made an amazing difference in my life.  His healing and kindness will be missed.  He was a rare person who made a difference in this world.

Larry was such a kind, loving man. Truly centered and present, a unique gem. I feel fortunate to have been his patient and that my daughter was blessed to have him as her first chiropractor. We are both deeply saddened to lose him and his friendship; he is irreplaceable in our lives. Our sympathy to his family and to Kim.

Larry, what a talent. His vision,  calmness, generosity and love always shone through. He helped me get started in Portland as a new doctor 17 years ago,after adjusting me while I was in Chiropractic college in the years prior to that. He was as large a presence to our profession as he was to his many patients. Condolences to his family and Kim. We are left to continue his healing legacy and he will be missed.

Today I learned this very sad news. My thoughts are with Larry, may he rest in peace, and with Larry's family, and with Kim who worked with Larry for many years.

Larry was a friend of my wife's and a great healer who worked with my son. Larry always had a smile and a great sense of peace about him whenever we visited his office. We were deeply saddened to hear the news today and send love to his family.
