Larry was a first-generation American on his father’s (Scotch-Irish) side and second-generation on his mother’s (Swedish) side. He was a 1947 graduate of Olympia High School. After graduation, he joined the Naval Reserve, serving as a Station Keeper at Sand Point Naval Air Station in Seattle. He transferred to inactive reserve and was able to use the G.I. Bill to study at the University of Washington. Larry rejoined the Navy in 1951 and was assigned to a submarine tender in San Diego. During that year, he met Patricia Richardson at a USO dance in Los Angeles, and they married the following November. Having received a Navy Supply Corps commission in 1956, Larry fully retired from the Navy in 1973 after 23 honorable years of service.
Upon his discharge from the Naval Reserves, Larry and Pat moved to Seattle where he finished his accounting degree. He took a position as an auditor and Pat went to work for the CIA. They lived in Virginia and Okinawa before settling in Portland, where he worked for Willamette Industries, and later as Controller and CPA for Griffith Rubber Mills, for whom he worked for 26 years, retiring in 1993.
Larry was an avid bowler, having set pins in a bowling alley when a young man, and playing in the first ever non-handicap league in Olympia. He also loved to golf, and he and Pat were extensive travelers and snowbirds in Palm Springs for many years. They were proud parents and grandparents and took great pleasure in their children’s and grandchildren’s many accomplishments.
Patricia passed away in March of 2023.
Mr. Regan is survived by his sons, Michael Regan and Ron Regan, and by additional immediate and extended family members.
Larry will be laid to rest with Patricia in private services at Willamette National Cemetery. A memorial service at Woodland Park Chapel, 1914 NE 102nd Avenue in Portland, will take place on Friday, November 13, 2026 at 11:00 am.
