

Larry was born January 26, 1945, in Long Beach, California, to Lawrence James and Marjorie Irene VanNimwegen (née Edwards). He grew up in Garden Grove, CA, and graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1963. Following taking junior college electronics courses, Larry served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war from 1966 to 1970, stationed on the USS Enterprise as an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate. After his service, Larry worked as a quality control inspector, initially for General Monitors, and later moved to Corona, California, where he started a family. He was active with the local amateur radio community, including as a Communication Specialist Volunteer with Corona Police Department.
Larry is survived by his son Jeff of Menifee, CA, son Jason of Hillsboro, OR, daughter-in-law Charmaine (née Celebria), grandchildren Miles and Max, brother Darrell and sister-in-law Windy of Lake Havasu, AZ, his former wives, Cyndy Dupree (née Coleman) of Riverside, and Linda Corbitt of Corona. His parents and granddaughter Sylvia (Jason and Charmaine) preceded him in death. Larry’s friends enjoyed his cooking, eagle collectibles, and love of watching favorite films, Top Gun and Terminator.
A memorial and graveside service with military funeral honors will be held at Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Portland, Oregon, on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at 1 pm.
