

Laverne Deweese was born to William and Clorian Coulter in Lockesburg, Arkansas December 1933. The Coulter family migrated to Portland, Oregon to raise a family. As a teenager she attended Jefferson High school & Roosevelt High school in Portland, Oregon.
Laverne was married to Carl DeWeese for over 49 years. Out of this union was birthed (3) three sons (Carl Jr., Phillip and Kenneth). She was a member of the Eastern star in Portland, Oregon.
Laverne worked for various employers in the City of Portland (i.e. Portland Public Schools District – King Facility, Humboldt, Boise/Elliot and Sabin Elementary Schools; Williams Market and Fred Meyers, just to name a few). She was a gardener from her heart, Laverne loved flowers and it was apparent that she had a green thumb.
Laverne was a Christian and expressed her love for the Lord through music. She performed many wonderful and favorite hymns while sitting and playing for her family and at church. Laverne was a member of Vancouver Avenue Baptist Church, Pastor A. Bailey. Her membership is now with Antioch Baptist Church, Pastor Charles Collins.
Lavernne was preceded in death by parents, William & Clorian Coulter; sisters, Luzell Blackwell and Linda Woods; brother, John Ed Coulter; husband, Carl DeWeese and son, carl DeWeese, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Phillip DeWeese & Wife (Francine), Kenneth DeWeese & Wife (Beverly) all of Portland, Oregon; sisters, Carolyn Nelodean White of Chicago, Illinois and Loraine Scott-Thomas of Portland, Oregon; a host of niece, nephews, grandchildren, great grand children and friends.
Laverne possessed a sweet and quiet spirit. She was well known in the City of Portland and will be greatly missed by many.
