January 28, 1946 - November 28, 2017
Larry was born in San Diego, California to Archie and Frances Becker. He was the third child of four. He is survived by his wife Rosalie, his son Justin Becker (Tricia), daughter Ashley Becker-Nunley (Boyd), and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Dick Walsh (CA), Edward Becker (CA), and Barbara Becker (IL). Larry leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
After graduating from Helix High School in 1965 he joined and served in the US Army, with two tours in Vietnam as a Medical Corpsman (combat). He completed his tours in 1968, rejoining briefly with the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged on July 1980 as a 2nd Lieutenant.
Larry met his wife Rosie, and fell in love while recovering from spinal surgery. They married in San Diego, CA November 6, 1971. After meeting Rosie’s family and her beautiful home state of Oregon, the family moved to Corvallis. Larry attended and graduated from Linn-Benton Community College as a refrigeration and air conditioner technician. Eventually moving further North to Portland with his family as an HVAC Sales Engineer.
Larry loved his family and took joy in volunteering his free time in the children’s extracurricular activities. His hobbies included camping, fly fishing, hiking, crafting and rocking out to music. In later years bicycling became his passion. Building, repairing, and riding his bike behind or ahead of a stream of cyclers gave him enormous pleasure. Seattle to Portland and Summit to Surf just to name a few of his favorite rides.
Larry was known for his jokes and wit, along with an outgoing personality. He loved all people, and the importance of bringing laughter and joy into the hearts of those around him. He saw the importance of volunteering where needed. The city of Gresham, Gresham Elks, and the Veterans Hospital to name a few. Having felt so blessed in life, giving back to those in need was a must in his retirement. He never complained over the many years of struggling with the effects of Agent Orange and instead tried to bring laughter and love to the lives of others.
