
Born March 6, 1923 in Portland Oregon to Clarence and Helen Marshall. Grew up in what is now known as Multnomah Village. Attended Multnomah Grade School and Benson Polytechnic High School. Joined the US Navy in January 1943 and served in the Pacific Theater during WWII until February 1947 attaining the rate of Motor Machinist’s Mate First Class. Upon returning from Naval Service he joined the Multnomah Volunteer Fire Department. When the City of Portland annexed Multnomah into the city he became a member of the Portland Fire Bureau serving most of his career at the main station at Front & Ash in downtown Portland. He retired from the Bureau in 1980. He married Pearl Alice Hart in February 1944 and had two children, Stephen and Susan. An avid sportsman in his earlier years he enjoyed fishing and hunting. In his retirement years he gravitated to gardening and raising nursery stock. The bounty of his annual garden was shared with family, friends and those in his community. He had many friends through his involvement in the Hillsboro Elks, recreation property he helped develop with others appropriately called Bourbon Acres and dance classes at the Elsie Stuhr Center in Beaverton. He was preceded in death by his wives Pearl & Connie , brother John (aka Bud)and sister Loreen and her husband Larry.
He is survived by son Steve (Patrick), daughter Sue (Bob), lady friend Betty Justis, brother Leland (Faye) and sister Mildred (Dick), brother John’s wife Maxine and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Visitation to be held at Skyline Memorial Gardens on Monday March 3rd, graveside service for family on Tuesday March 4th. Celebration of Life to be held March 22nd noon to 4PM at the Hillsboro, Oregon Elks lodge.
